Low Vision Service

Low vision simply means not being able to see as well as most other people even when you’re wearing glasses or contact lenses, this can be due to other problems in the eyes. In today’s society it is rare people will lose their vision completely, however conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration or damage to the eye from other eye related diseases or injury can result in substantial visual loss. The risk of these problems generally increases with age, most people with low vision are in excess of  70.

At Ernest Opticians we are proud to offer this specialised low vision service at no charge to the patient as Lydia holds the necessary additional professional qualifications.

This service includes useful information and advice for people with poor vision and their families to help them adapt to the change in lifestyle and how to use the many visual aids that are available. The low vision assessment is performed annually ensuring low vision patients have the correct low vision aids, help and support as their sight changes. If you think a low vision test would be helpful to you, please contact us as soon as possible for an appointment.

The Low Vision service is funded entirely by the Welsh Assembly.
