Lydia Smith Director/Optometrist
In February 2017, Lydia fulfilled her dream of owning her own practice. After gaining a degree in Biology at The University of Sheffield, Lydia then studied and gained a degree in Optometry and Vision Sciences at Cardiff University. After completing her pre-registration year, she gained her certificate to practice becoming a Member of The College of Optometrists. Lydia undertakes all aspects of eyecare and contact lenses as well as low vision.
Lydia is WECS accredited and certified in Low Vision and Glaucoma. She completed the Alcon Scholarship programme in 2016. This two-year scholarship comprised of five courses, held at their UK head office and one of Alcon’s state-of-the-art European facilities. As part of the programme Lydia had the opportunity to understand and develop many different skills that benefit patients and the business. The areas covered ranged from communication, business acumen and psychology, clinical consulting room strategies and methods to surgical techniques and pathways.
Lydia completed her first clinical trial for a world leading contact lens company and is an active member of the local South East Wales Regional Optometric Committee (SEWROC).
Visiting the local nursery school talking to the children about eye care and engaging them in activities was very memorable. Annually supporting the Monmouth branch of the Chernobyl Children’s Charity is also very dear to us providing the visiting children with free eye examinations and free spectacles when needed. Lydia is also a member of the Monmouth Chamber of Commerce.
When Lydia isn’t in the test room or getting to grips with the accounts, she enjoys spending time with friends and visiting the family as well as cooking.
